Oxford’s 1960-61 inter-collegiate Novice Eights Rowing Championship was won by the University College 2nd Eight Crew coxed by first year student Stephen Hawking. The strong-voiced, lightweight Physics major has proven an ideal coxswain despite being teased for occasionally having his “head in the stars.”
