Up-and-coming politician Gerald N. Springer was making a name for himself on the Cincinnati City Council, until he abruptly resigned after news broke that a “well-known Cincinnati political figure” was involved in a vice investigation. Springer boldly admitted to paying prostitutes with personal checks. His honesty proved an asset, and the contrite Springer made a remarkable comeback as he was voted back to the City Council. In 1977 he went on to take his turn as Mayor of Cincinnati!
