GAS is back with Series 3 of its iconic flagship series, featuring fascinating personalities and incredible events! Zheng Yi Sao is one of history’s most successful female pirates, and one of the most successful pirates in history. Born in 1775, Zheng Yi Sao married a pirate named Zheng Yi in 1801, taking his name. After the death of her husband in 1807, she took control of his pirate confederation with the support of his adopted son Zhang Bao, whom she later married. As the unofficial commander of the Guangdong Pirate Confederation, her fleet was composed of 400 junks and 60,000 pirates. Her ships battled several major powers, such as the East India Company, the Portuguese Empire and Qing China.
